The respected Property Week publication has highlighted the ‘growing self-confidence’ of Leicester
Property Week’s article focuses on the headline-grabbing prowess of the area and the major schemes being carried out to create an even brighter future for Leicester residents.
From the ceremonial reburial of Richard III’s body earlier in the year, an event which made headlines around the world, to the construction set to start at New Walk on the first major office scheme to be created in Leicester since 2008, it is not hard to catch on to the positive feelings currently sweeping the area.
There is also the gathering momentum for the regeneration of the Waterside area, and according to the city council’s head of development projects, a real focus on making the most of recent improvements to public spaces in the city centre and the opening in 2008 of the renowned Highcross shopping centre, with its flagship John Lewis store.
Louise Seymour says the increasing number of visitors discovering Leicester are often surprised by the quality of the city’s amenities, including both the world-class Highcross and the large selection of independent shops.
She added that the adoption of a mayoral system has also led to a more proactive planning department within the city council, opening the door to even more opportunities and giving would-be residents even more reason to want to live in Leicester.
In the Property Week article, Ms Seymour also highlighted the strength of the city’s two universities and the fast transport links with the capital, both of which offer great ingredients for those looking for the recipe for a good home-life balance.
For those people looking for business opportunities in the area, a new focus on the creation of usable office space is also making the city an attractive prospect for the future.
Current projects being carried out include the transformation of the council’s former New Walk headquarters into offices, restaurants and retail units, along with apartments and parking, adding further to the confidence being felt in the city’s place as a business as well as a residential hub of excellence.
Last month, the Leicester and Leicestershire Enterprise Partnership also submitted a bid concerning the creation of a new enterprise zone across multiple sites which would focus on development and research.
This zone would include the Waterside area, boosting further the prospects of an area that looks set to be transformed beyond recognition over the coming years.
