The team at Keywest aims to always ensure that moving house is as stress-free as possible, here is a Moving House Notification Checklist
Whether that means helping you to find your perfect Leicester rental, showing you around your dream property to buy or giving you the information you need to help you on your way.
We have compiled a list to help you make sure that you notify all of the relevant people when you change address. This can help you to avoid missing important correspondence or footing bills that shouldn’t be your responsibility to pay.
Services and utility companies should be right at the top of your list when it comes to telling people about your move. This is to prevent you from being charged for services that you are no longer using and stop you from facing complications when it comes to paying bills at your new address.
When it comes to utility companies and other people who are likely to send you bills, it is essential that they have the right correspondence address and the correct telephone number and email address. It may seem like a good idea to go off the radar when it comes to paying bills, but this can lead to serious problems, ranging from credit-score issues to hefty interest charges and possible legal action.
Service and utilities companies that should be notified include your water, gas and electricity suppliers. Other organisations you should contact include your telephone provider, the Post Office, your internet and cable or satellite providers, any appliance rental companies and TV licensing.
Failure to notify financial companies and organisations can also lead to similar problems as those mentioned previously. Therefore, it is important to check that you have notified banks, credit card companies, building societies and National Savings and Investments.
Notifications must also be sent out to the relevant local authority for Council Tax purposes, to your employer, your insurance and pension companies, your benefits provider if applicable, your solicitor and HMRC.
In the health category, make sure you tell your doctor, dentist and optician about your move, and if you’re a motorist, inform your breakdown recovery company, your vehicle insurance company and the DVLA.
On a more personal level, let friends and family know your new address, and also consider whether you need to change any subscriptions or delivery services. The latter could be anything from telling your milk delivery or newspaper supplier to changing the address linked to your Amazon account. You should also tell your library when you have moved house and inform any relevant schools or colleges.
