The Chancellor, George Osborne, surprised many with an announcement to make sweeping changes to the stamp duty we pay when purchasing a property, with changes coming into effect almost immediately, only one day after his Autumn Statement. The government claims that 98 per cent of homebuyers in England will save money under the new scheme.
You should also be aware that if you have exchanged contracts on your purchase already, but not completed, you will have the choice of paying the old or new rate.
