Keywest offer some gardening tips to help sell your property.

Keywest is the perfect choice for helping you to secure the best price and the quickest sale for your property, but you can help us to help you – starting with your garden. This is often the first thing that a prospective buyer will see, and so it is essential that it draws people in and reflects well on the rest of your property.

To help you create the best first impression possible, drawing buyers from the outside in, here are our top ten gardening tips to think about when you’re preparing your home for sale.

1. Take away rubbish. Getting ready to move can be a messy business, but don’t move your junk from your house to your garden if you want to appeal to buyers.

2. Clean paths and patios. Get rid of weeds, cut back overhanging trees and bushes and banish slippery moss that can be dangerous as well as unsightly.

3. Look after your lawn. Don’t let your grass grow to knee-height and then panic-cut, leaving it looking yellow and dead. Try to cut your lawn at least every fortnight during its growing season, and use an edger to create a neat finish.

4. Maximise space. Overgrown shrubs, hedges and lawns will make your garden look smaller than it is, so make sure you keep everything cut back and trimmed.

5. Show off the features. If you have a great view from the garden, make sure an overgrown hedge doesn’t stand in the way, or if you know that one area is great for catching the sun, place a table and chairs there to show off the benefits your garden has to potential buyers.

6. Dig up weeds. If you spend some time digging out and treating weeds even before putting your home up for sale, it will make it a lot easier to maintain your garden in between viewings.

7. Think ground cover. Do not leave large areas of bare soil on show. This will not add to either your garden’s appearance or its health. Invest in some mulch and some inexpensive new plants to make it visually more appealing.

8. Maintenance. Do not simply focus on the growing things in your garden. Repair gates, fix fences and give everything a coat of wood stain, varnish or paint if necessary.

9. Consider light. Cut back trees or overgrown bushes that can affect how much light is getting into your property. More light will make your home seem more spacious to a potential buyer.

10. Pet problems. Make sure all of your pet’s mess is picked up from your garden, and try not to let animals urinate on your grass, as this can make it look patchy in the long term.
