Top Things to Do in Leicester This Summer

The Riverside Festival

Keep your fingers crossed for some sunshine on the 2nd and 3rd of June, because that’s the weekend this year’s Riverside Festival is taking place on. Spread across Western Boulevard, Bede Park, Mile Straight and Castle Gardens, there’s fun for the whole family and a range of activities to be enjoyed both on and off the water. Watch the boat racing, enjoy live music and sample some incredible local food and drink, with art, workshops and stalls to suit all tastes and budgets.

Bradgate House Ruins

Open for only a handful of weekends during the year, the ruins of Bradgate House will be open to the public on the 2nd-3rd of June and the last three weekends of July. Tour the ruins to learn more about this historic landmark and the family who built it. Entry is free, and it’s a great day out with the kids over the summer holidays.

Timber Festival

Another great way to keep the kids entertained over the school holidays, the new Timber Festival blends music, philosophy, art and nature to teach them about the natural world and the environment in a fun and engaging way. It’s held between the 6th and 8th of July in the breathtaking National Forest, and kids can explore the woodland and learn more about our relationship with the country’s historic forests.

Leicester Caribbean Carnival

One of the biggest events on the summer calendar, this year’s Caribbean Carnival is set to take place on the 4th August. Even if the Great British weather lets you down, you can always enjoy a little slice of that gorgeous Caribbean sunshine and celebrate the diversity of this great city with some incredible food, live street performances and fantastic music.
